about the hollow house

Casa La Frida is a sociocultural space for the promotion of culture and social actions aimed at mobility, sustainability and well-being, targeting the black population, with a focus on black women. Thirsty  active since 2017 installed in Salvador-Ba, the La Frida Bike Movement is now expanding not only its actions, but also a new headquarters located in Recôncavo, a countryside region surrounded by the Todos Santos bay with a majority black population spread mainly among the peripheries, zones rural and quilombos.

The region was chosen because it is a territory marked by the struggles of black resistance, containing several quilombola territories, spaces that mark this resistance to this day, despite all these spaces  suffer from various absence of subsidies. We believe that with the headquarters in the territory, it will be possible to interact and act more actively in communities outside the city centers.

Thinking about mobility through the bicycle as a tool to access the city that can enable the claim of rights and resources for quilombola and peripheral territories. In sustainability as a way of exchanging traditional knowledge, performing and seeking ways to protect and conserve the environment. Well-being as a mechanism for rethinking health based on self-care and natural preventive possibilities for physical, psychological and emotional harm. And so too,  promoting popular art, valuing local culture, thinking of it as a mechanism for social integration, recovery of cultural identity and diverse exchanges.

Thus, Casa La Frida-Recôncavo is configured as a support center for urban mobility, being a space to promote meetings and dialogues that contribute to the empowerment of black women and build paths for gender, race and class equality. In addition to working as a support point for collectives and employees who want to offer activities and carry out voluntary cultural events open to the public, aiming to establish a network connection of collectives, individuals and social movements in the region.
